Evidence:
| Pubmed ID | Function | Species | Evidence Strength | Reviewer's Comments | Reviewer |
| [11278933] | DNA Binding | Mouse | Strong | EMSA assays show that ATF-7 can bind to CRE elements. Co-immunoprecipitation experiments show that ATF-7 also binds to PRL-1 and that this interaction allows PRL-1 to dephosphorylate ATF-7 | Sarav Sundararajan |
| [15735663] | Transactivation | Human | Strong | Reporter assays show that the GAL4(DBD)-ATF-7 fusion can transactivate the UAS-luciferase construct and that this transactivation is mediated through interactions between ATF-7 and hsTAF12. | Sarav Sundararajan |
| [1694576] | DNA Binding | Human | Strong | By screening a HeLa cell cDNA library using an adenovirus ATF-binding sequence as the probe, the authors isolated cDNAs encoding ATF7, which they called ATFA, and a splice variant. | Gwenael Breard |
| [11278933] | DNA Binding | Mouse | Strong | ATF-7 is most closely related to members of the ATF/CREB family of bZIP proteins, with highest homology to ATF-4. ATF-7 homodimers can bind specifically to CRE elements. | Gwenael Breard |
| [15735663] | TF PPI | Human | Strong | Athors show that overexpression of hsTAF12 potentiates ATF7-induced transcriptional activation through direct interaction with ATF7, suggesting that TAF12 is a functional partner of ATF7. In support of this conclusion, chromatin immunoprecipitation experiments confirm the interaction of ATF7 with TAF12 on an ATF7-responsive promoter, in the absence of any artificial overexpression of both proteins. | Gwenael Breard |
| Additional Reviewer Comments: |
Reviewer: Gwenael Breard The ATF7 proteins, which are members of the cyclic AMP responsive binding protein (CREB)/activating transcription factor (ATF) family of transcription factors, display quite versatile properties: they can interact with the adenovirus E1a oncoprotein, mediating part of its transcriptional activity; they heterodimerize with the Jun, Fos or related transcription factors, likely modulating their DNA-binding specificity; they also recruit to the promoter a stress-induced protein kinase (JNK2) and bind TAF12. |
